StL Wildlife

Even though Elvis predates my sideburns by over half a century I've had the sideburns much longer than I've appreciated his music. They are not a homage to the King. Regardless, Elvis is my current music obsession. Well, obsession is the wrong word, I don't think about it much, but when I find something I like music-wise I tend to listen to it nearly exclusively for a very long time. For example, over the past five years I've been listening to mostly Tom Waits and the three years before that mostly to Tool. Yes, there are other things interspersed, but when I say mostly I mean more than half. Elvis might be my new Waits.

This new found appreciation comes from repeated listenings of the "Elv1s" album which covers 30 of his #1 hits. The album is sublime. Even the odd-ball oompah-band song "Wooden Heart" strikes the right note.

Of course, Elvis has nothing to do with costumed bead tossers. Its just that the parade was last Saturday and I was listening to Elvis tonight. I gotta keep it fresh.
